Our learning this term- Our topic this term is - What Can I see?

What Can I See? is a local area topic designed to help children explore, observe and understand the community of Penrhiwceiber. Through first-hand experiences, children will learn about familiar places, landmarks and people within their local environment. The topic encourages curiosity, communication and exploration, supporting children to make sense of the world around them.

Children will develop an awareness of their local community by going on walks, taking photographs, drawing simple maps and discussing what they see. They will also explore how Penrhiwceiber has changed over time and investigate different materials, with a focus on waterproof and non-waterproof properties.

Learning in Dosbarth Acorn is mainly practical, with a strong focus on encouraging children to become independent and resource their own learning. The children enjoy hands-on activities that are carefully planned to suit their individual abilities. They are supported by adults within the class and benefit from exploring a wide range of learning experiences both indoors and outdoors.

Key Information

• PE is on Fridays – children can come to school wearing joggers or leggings with their school jumper or cardigan.
   
• Please make sure your child has a labelled water bottle in school every day.
   
• We ask that children also bring in a piece of fruit for snack each day.

• All items of clothing (especially jumpers and cardigans!) should be clearly labelled with your child’s name.
