Our topic this term is called
'Investigation Station'
What are we learning about?
Welcome to Investigation Station, where curiosity leads the way! In this topic, we will become scientists as we explore the world around us and discover how things work. We’ll ask questions, carry out fun experiments, and investigate everything from how plants grow to how everyday objects function. By observing, testing, and learning, we’ll uncover the wonders of science and develop our understanding of the amazing processes happening all around us. Get ready to think like a scientist and explore the fascinating world of discovery.
In Literacy this term, our learning is inspired by our whole-school Book Fizz text, Hike. This beautiful, wordless story gives us a wonderful opportunity to explore storytelling through images, encouraging imagination, discussion, and a deeper understanding of narrative. We will focus on developing a love for reading by engaging with the book in creative ways, such as predicting events, describing characters and settings, and sequencing the journey. Through these activities, learners will build confidence in expressing their ideas and interpreting stories beyond words.
Following this, we will move on to letter writing. Using the inspiration from Hike, we will plan and write our own letters to Ms Tudge, asking for permission to go on our very own hike to a waterfall. We will learn about the features of a letter, including how to structure our writing, use appropriate language, and clearly explain our reasons. This will allow us to apply our creativity while developing important writing skills in a meaningful and engaging context.
In Maths this term, we will begin by exploring directions and position. Learners will use a compass to understand north, south, east and west, as well as developing their knowledge of turns, including clockwise and anti-clockwise. Through practical activities and problem-solving, they will build confidence in giving and following directions.
We will then move on to learning about time. Pupils will practise telling the time on both analogue and digital clocks, developing their understanding of hours, minutes, and how time is represented in different formats. They will also apply these skills to real-life contexts, helping them to see the importance of time in everyday situations.
Alongside these topics, we will continue with our daily Big Maths sessions, which support learners in developing fluency, recall, and confidence in key mathematical skills.
