OAK

Teachers

Croeso to Dosbarth Oak, our y5/6 class. The class is taught by Mr G Phillips and supported by Mrs C Evans. Here are some important details for the academic year:

Homework - Sent home on Friday to be returned on Tuesday. Homework is a consolidation of the work that has been taking place in class. An opportunity for pupils to show their understanding without teacher support and keep parents informed on the learning taking place. Maths and literacy will be sent, sometimes in their homework folders, other times on Google Classroom. Mr Phillips will talk through the homework prior to releasing the pupils each Friday. Homework folders will also include a home-reader book for pupils, pupils will also have access to Giglets, an online reading resource with comprehension and reading test questions for pupils to complete.

PE- Takes place each Wednesday, unless stated otherwise. Please provide suitable kit and footwear for pupils to change into, PE will take place outdoors as much as possible. During the Spring Term, pupils will attend swimming lessons in place of PE, this will also take place on Wednesday. Please send pupils to school with their swimsuit, a towel, healthy snack and a water bottle.

Uniform - Pupils must wear uniform, the class with the most pupils in school uniform are celebrated in Friday's Celebration Assembly.

Spring Topic: Frozen Kingdom

Welcome to the planet's coldest lands... vast wilds, hostile territories, incredibly beautiful yet often deadly. Take shelter from the elements or fall prey to the icy winds and deepest chills. Trek bravely and valiantly across the treacherous terrain to the ends of the Earth, treading deep in the snow or pulled by a team of mighty sled dogs.

We will be exploring our own community before comparing and contrasting with Antarctica.

Autumn Term Topic - Gallery

Our Topic this term focusses on the AoLE of Expressive Arts. Will be developing creative skills, developing artistic skills such as shading and blending colours, studying the Welsh artist, Kyffin Williams, and creating our own artwork based on his landscape paintings. We will also have a visit from the Pain Along Live Lady, and will create a masterpiece to sell during a Parent Pupil session. We will also develop our digital skills, taking pictures of our surrounding landscape in Penrhiwceibr and editing it using filters, we will also be coding using Microbits and creating presentations on an artist of the pupils choice.
