  • January start date change Information this morning from Jeremy Miles AS/MS, the Minister of Education, Welsh Assembly Government (WAG)

    Thu 16 Dec 2021 NV

All schools should use the first two days back immediately after the Christmas and new year break as their planning days.

The two planning days at the start of the spring term will enable schools to assess staffing capacity and put the necessary measures in place to support the return of all learners. This will be an opportunity for schools to revisit their contingency plans, assess where additional measures are necessary using the local infection control framework and consider what arrangements might need to be in place for vulnerable learners and the children of critical workers during any periods of disruption.

This means that at this present time pupils will now return to school on Thursday 6th January 2022. We are expecting further updates from WAG on December 30th following current levels of uncertainty regarding the impact of Omicron.

I am also conscious that what we learn over the coming weeks about Omicron may require interventions for the higher risk levels as set out in our Local Decision Framework. Therefore, as a precautionary approach, we will plan our mitigations for the return based on the ‘very high’ risk level. As part of this preparation, we will return to staggered start and finish times from the start of the new term, require social distancing at gates and the wearing of face coverings. We have currently had no guidance on any changes to breakfast club.

This is a fast-evolving situation and we continue to monitor the latest information from WAG, there may be a need to issue further updates in the event of any significant developments during the Christmas holiday period. In these circumstances, we will message you via the School App.

I would like to end by repeating my thanks to you for your continued support over the most challenging of times. I hope you and all your family stay safe and have a happy Christmas break.

    Kind Regards,

    Mr Vaughan
